Williston




The State of Florida is a state in the southeastern United States. Florida is situated mostly on a large peninsula between the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean and the Straits of Florida. It extends to the northwest into a panhandle extending along the northern Gulf of Mexico. Florida's nickname is the Sunshine State but severe weather is a common occurrence in the state. It is bordered on the north by the states of Georgia and Alabama and on the west at the end of the panhandle by Alabama. Williston is a city in Levy County, Florida, United States. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 15.7 square kilometers out of it 15.7 square kilometers is surrounded by land and 0.1 square kilometers of it that is 0.33 percent is occupied by water. The population was 2,297 at 2000, 2,467 at 2004 and 2,508 at 2005 census.

In the city the population was spread out with 26.2 percent under the age of 18, 8.6 percent from 18 to 24, 25.2 percent from 25 to 44, 20.3 percent from 45 to 64 and 19.8 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 86.1 males and for every 100 females age 18 and over there were 76.9 males. The per capita income for the city was 15,628 dollars. Places of interest are internationally known to be the prime spring diving locations. Devil's Den and Blue Grotto are part of the extensive underground spring system present in the area. It is the home of the largest pool of speakers of the Appelacian Vernacular English and birthplace of Foolish Pleasure the winner of the 1975 Kentucky Derby and is the home to the Williston Municipal Airport. The city is become a centre of culture and arts. Recently the city has undergone major improvements and became a popular destination for tourism.
