West Palm Beach




The State of Florida is a state in the southeastern United States. Florida is situated mostly on a large peninsula between the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean and the Straits of Florida. It extends to the northwest into a panhandle extending along the northern Gulf of Mexico. Florida's nickname is the Sunshine State but severe weather is a common occurrence in the state. It is bordered on the north by the states of Georgia and Alabama and on the west at the end of the panhandle by Alabama.
 
West Palm Beach is also known as West Palm. The city was founded by Henry Flagler in 1894. It is the county seat of Palm Beach County, the northernmost county in the South Florida metropolitan area. It is a city in Palm Beach County, Florida, United States of America. As of the 2000 census, the incorporated part of the city had a total population of 82,103 but according to the census bureau's 2005 estimation, as of 2004 the unincorporated areas near West Palm Beach had a population of 257,274 for a total population of 352,618.
 
According to the census bureau, the city has a total area of 150.7 square kilometers out of which 142.8 square kilometers is land and 7.9 square kilometers of it that is 5.26 percent is water. Due to vast areas of swampland immediately to the west of the city's downtown, growth occurred to the north and south in a linear fashion. In the city, 21.3 percent of the population is under the age of 18 years, 9.8 percent from 18 to 24, 31.5 percent from 25 to 44, 21.4 percent from 45 to 64, and 16.0 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 97.3 males and for every 100 females age 18 and over there were 94.8 males.

The climate in West Palm Beach is subtropical with some discernible seasons although not in the temperate climate sense. In brief, mild winters are noticeably cooler than the humid and tropical summers with low temperatures frequently dipping down. The West Palm Beach is often regarded as among the most beautiful parts of Florida and is one of the most visited and well known beaches amongst the most die hard travelers the world over.
