Sneads

The State of Florida is a state in the southeastern United States. Florida is situated mostly on a large peninsula between the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Straits of Florida. It extends to the northwest into a panhandle, extending along the northern Gulf of Mexico. Florida's nickname is the Sunshine State but severe weather is a common occurrence in the state. It is bordered on the north by the states of Georgia and Alabama, and on the west, at the end of the panhandle, by Alabama.

Sneads is located 20 miles east of Marianna, 40 miles west of Tallahassee and about 70 miles to the north of Panama city. It is nestled in the Florida Panhandle and located on the southwest shore of lake Seminole. The city has a perfect small town charm. Though small in size, it has a great deal to offer. According to the 2005 census, the population was 1,943. Sneads operates under the council manager form of Government and there are five council members elected at large. The elections are rotated so that the members are not all elected or reelected at once.

The locals have long understood and appreciated this rural area rich in outdoor recreation. Uniquely situated on the southern shore of lake Seminole and near the Apalachicola river, the city offers unparalleled outdoor activities such as fresh water fishing, boating and hunting. It is mostly known as an agrarian region, many farms and ponds dot the landscape among vast forests of tall pines and oaks. Sneads is often regarded as among the most beautiful parts of Florida and is one of the most visited places amongst the most die hard travelers the world over. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and gain enthusiasm in its natural beauty and populace.
