Sanford




The State of Florida is a state in the southeastern United States. Florida is situated mostly on a large peninsula between the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Straits of Florida. It extends to the northwest into a panhandle, extending along the northern Gulf of Mexico. Florida's nickname is the Sunshine State but severe weather is a common occurrence in the state. It is bordered on the north by the states of Georgia and Alabama, and on the west, at the end of the panhandle, by Alabama.
 
Sanford is a city in Seminole County, Florida, USA. The population was 38,291 at the 2000 census. As of 2005, the population recorded by the U.S. census bureau was 47,257. An older agricultural and resort area, Sanford is home to the delta connection academy, seminole community college and the central florida zoological park.
 
In 1845, Florida became a state and Mellonville became county seat of Orange County, formerly called mosquito county with its county seat across the lake at Enterprise. Orange groves were planted, with the first fruit packing plant built in 1869. In 1870, General Henry Shelton Sanford bought 12,548 acres to the west of Mellonville and laid out the community of Sanford. Believing it would become a transportation hub, he called it the gateway city to south florida and the area became the largest shipper of oranges in the world.
 
According to the U.S Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 58.5 kilometer square. 49.5 kilometer square of it is land and 9.0 kilometer square of it is water. Sanford is situated beside Lake Monroe and the St. Johns River. In the city the population was spread out with 26.8 percent under the age of 18, 10.7 percent from 18 to 24, 32.5 percent from 25 to 44, 19. percent from 45 to 64, and 10.5 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 99.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.9 males. Famous former and current residents are Charlie Carlson, Tim Raines and many more.

The city is often regarded as among the most beautiful parts of U.S, it is one of the most visited places amongst the most die hard travelers the world over. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and gain enthusiasm in its natural beauty and populace.
