Chiefland




The State of Florida is a state in the southeastern United States. Florida is situated mostly on a large peninsula between the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean and the Straits of Florida. It extends to the northwest into a panhandle extending along the northern Gulf of Mexico. Florida's nickname is the Sunshine State but severe weather is a common occurrence in the state. It is bordered on the north by the states of Georgia and Alabama and on the west at the end of the panhandle by Alabama.
 
Chiefland is a city in Levy County, Florida, United States. According to the United States census bureau, the city has a total area of 10.1 square kilometers all covered by land and its population was 2,095 in 2005 census. In the city the population was spread out with 31.3 percent under the age of 18, 9.0 percent from 18 to 24, 22.8 percent from 25 to 44, 20.0 percent from 45 to 64 and 16.9 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 79.7 males and for every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 71.3 males.
 
The Gem of the Suwannee Valley, Chiefland offers many different facets of quality living that make it one of the best places to live in Florida. Chiefland and its surrounding towns are ideal for fishing. The Suwannee river and Lake Rousseau is another great freshwater fishing spot. The city is considered the home of Manatee springs state park. The area's delectable seafood and shellfish are world renowned, as are the historic shops and the 81,000 acres of wildlife refuge surrounding the town.

The greater Chiefland area chamber of commerce is organized for the purpose of upgrading and advancing the greater Chiefland area in population, commerce and finance, in civic and social improvement. The city has become a centre of industry, education, administration and culture. Recently it has undergone major improvements and became a popular destination for tourism. The city is often regarded as among the most beautiful parts of Florida, it is one of the most visited places amongst the most die hard travelers the world over.
