Monticello




The State of Florida is a state in the southeastern United States. Florida is situated mostly on a large peninsula between the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Straits of Florida. It extends to the northwest into a panhandle, extending along the northern Gulf of Mexico. Florida's nickname is the Sunshine State but severe weather is a common occurrence in the state. It is bordered on the north by the states of Georgia and Alabama, and on the west, at the end of the panhandle, by Alabama.
 
Monticello is a city in Jefferson County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,533 at the 2000 census. As of 2004, the population recorded by the U.S. Census Bureau is 2,572 and 2,546. It is the county seat of Jefferson County. Jefferson County is a county located in the U.S. state of Florida. As of 2000, the population is 12,902. The U.S. Census Bureau 2005 estimate for the county is 14,490. Its county seat is Monticello, Florida.
 
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 8.8 square kilometers, all land.  In the city the population was spread out with 25.1 percent under the age of 18, 9.0 percent from 18 to 24, 24.6 percent from 25 to 44, 22.7 percent from 45 to 64, and 18.6 percent who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 79.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 73.3 males.
