Key West




The State of Florida is a state in the southeastern United States. Florida is situated mostly on a large peninsula between the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Straits of Florida. It extends to the northwest into a panhandle, extending along the northern Gulf of Mexico. Florida's nickname is the Sunshine State but severe weather is a common occurrence in the state. It is bordered on the north by the states of Georgia and Alabama, and on the west, at the end of the panhandle, by Alabama.
 
Key West is a city and an island of the same name near the southernmost tip of the Florida Keys in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The city encompasses the namesake island, the northern part of Stock Island, Dredgers Key, Fleming Key, and Tank Island. Key West is known as the Southernmost City in the Continental United States. The population was 26,534 in 2000 census.
 
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 19.2 square kilometers. The Key West Botanical Forest and Garden is an excellent, frost-free arboretum and botanical garden containing a number of champion tree specimens.
